Need a great hostess or holiday gift and don’t have a ton of money to spend? Try these roasted almonds as an alternative to the usual sugary fare.
What you need:
¼ – ½ cup sugar, ¼ tsp salt, 1 egg white, 1 tsp cold water, ½ teaspoon cardamom / cinnamon / spice of choice, 4 cups whole almonds.
What you do:
Preheat your oven to 250° F. Lightly grease a lasagna pan or similar sized glass baking dish. (You could also use one of those disposable aluminum pans from the dollar store if you are doing this remotely and not near your home.) Whisk the egg white and water until lightly frothy. Add the almonds and stir until coated. Mix together salt, sugar and your spice of choice. Toss with the nuts to coat thoroughly, and spread evenly in the baking dish.
Bake in oven for one hour, stirring to turn over every 15 minutes.
Package in a round gift tin lined with a fluted coffee filter. I’ve used this for gifts numerous times and always received rave reviews.
