Yard Larder: Pineapple Weed

I have oceans of this stuff in my front yard.  It doesn’t get very tall — never more than 5″, say — has a sweet little flower, and it smells wonderful when crushed underfoot…the scent is reminiscent of pineapple. If it had no other value (but it does), just the scent would make this plant worth seeking out.

Pineapple Weed is a poor cousin in the chamomile family and can be used any way chamomile can.  The flowers dried make a lovely tea, and cooked instead of or with chamomile, make a lovely jelly, too.

Just because a plant is called ‘weed’ doesn’t mean it has no redeeming value! This little gem is a fine example.
