Welcome to the first weekly Happy Hour Friday cocktail carnival here at We Be Sharin’! We work hard all week, and each deserve a chance to unwind a bit as Friday afternoon rolls around. With this in mind, we’re launching this weekly happy hour event where bloggers on any topic are welcome to come and submit a link to a cocktail post.
For those who just found this on your own, or those on the advanced invite list who need a refresher, here’s the reference page for Happy Hour Friday’s basic participation rules. Now, without further ado, is this week’s contribution from the home team.
When the hot summer days hit, sangria is one of my favorite go-to drinks to serve with dinner or for an afternoon break at the end of the week. Here’s a simple recipe for white sangria that I’m making for this evening’s happy hour at our house.
What you need:
- El cheapo wine of choice. It can be the gallon jugs or a boxed version. It really doesn’t matter nobody expects you to use expensive wine when it comes to sangria.
- Fruit juice. I’m using the shelf-stable canned concentrate from Welch’s that I can mix up separately and use both for this batch of sangria and to jazz up some iced tea over the weekend.
- Sliced citrus fruit. I’m using some sliced jumbo oranges and limes.
What you do:
Mix everything together and freeze a bit of the fruit juice ahead of time in ice cube trays to keep things chilled. If you’re having an official get together, serve the whole batch in a punch bowl. Adjust the ingredient amounts to fit the number of people attending your happy hour event.
Menu pairing: Serve with grissini, stuffed mushrooms and a cheese plate for a simple and elegant gathering with minimal fuss.
So what are your happy hour suggestions for this week? Sound off below! Don’t forget to post a comment when you’re done, and consider visiting the sites of some of the submitters to introduce yourself and network.
