Looking for quick and easy dog treats to mix up for your favorite pooch? This two-ingredient canine cookie recipe is just the ticket.
It’s a modification of the quick dog treats recipe I featured in my review of the book Eco Dog, over on Wise Bread. In this version, I swap the organic baby food for organic apple sauce, and provide further measurement information for the liquid ingredient.
What you need:
1 cup organic wheat germ, 16 tablespoons of organic apple sauce (or 8 frozen cubes of apple sauce from your ice cube tray). Note – In this case tablespoons refers to the smaller size of spoon from your silverware collection, not the standard baking measurement.
What you do:
Preheat the oven to 350 ° F. Grease a baking sheet with butter or organic cooking spray. Combine the ingredients and mix thoroughly. Shape the mixture into one-inch balls and place them apart on the baking sheet. Flatten with the back of a fork. Bake for 25 – 30 minutes, before removing and cooling on a wire rack.
How to take these to the next level:
Add 1 tbsp garlic powder or pureed garlic to help ward off flees. I also regularly substitute half of the organic wheat germ with ground flax seed and a spoonful or two of organic oat bran. Other variations would include grated carrot or the addition of a spoonful or two of organic peanut butter in place of some of the organic apple sauce.
These are super simple, short on ingredients and a mega hit with our pooch. For more treat recipes and fun project ideas for recycled fabrics, check out the book Eco Dog on Amazon. (affiliate link)
