Time-Saving Three Ingredient Cobbler

Have been meaning to try this for a while now. While you could probably do this cheaper from scratch, using the two pre-made ingredients from the store still brings this recipe in under three USD for the entire batch. Another bonus? Other than the butter (which you can store in the freezer) the goods are canned and boxed dry items. So you can have everything you need on hand without the items going rancid. Here’s what you need:
1 box dry yellow cake mix, 1 20-ounce can of fruit based pie filling (cherry, apple, peach, berry, etc.), 1 stick of butter.
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees and spray an 8″ x 8″ pan with cooking spray. Open the pie filling and spread evenly in the bottom of the pan. Sprinkle the dry cake mix evenly over the top. Cut up or grate hard / frozen butter over the top of the whole thing to provide even melting / coating during the baking process. Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the cake mix has been moistened through with the butter and filling.
This comes out to basically a fruit filling on the bottom with a rich cake-like topping. Serve with whipped cream, cool whip or vanilla ice cream if desired.
I have to say, I doubt this is the leanest recipe in the world (although I did use sugar free cherry pie filling), but it is cheap and quick if you have unexpected company. Great for down home entertaining on the fly.
