Since I was on the gate topic anyway, I decided to start a post on fencing ideas. There are many ways to do at least the smaller decorative ones inexpensively.
Limbed branches attached vertically or horizontally to a frame and left to weather and turn gray have a great look that you can use for either an English garden look, a north woods theme, or a southwest style garden with rusted ranch equipment. If you read our previous post on what to do with old wooden pallets, there’s a link there to a decent looking fence idea as well.
- This fence decorating idea using tea cups would be great at a garden club get together, a bridal shower, wedding, or little girls’ special tea party. Not the look I’m personally going for, but worth a look if using old dishes is your “cup of tea”.
- Here’s a discussion thread on home made fencing that has a picture of a living willow lattice fence. Very unusual.
- This link is to a garden forum posting from a woman in Maine who makes her own very affordable twig fences using inexpensive metal posts, wire and small tree branches gleaned while pruning.
- A photo diary of a wattle fencing project which requires minimal tools and can be done a bit at a time using pruned branches from your yard.
- Here’s a link to pictures and information on making your own wire mesh fence. These could be cute if you let vegetation grow up them, either floral or something from your vegetable garden.
I’ll post more fencing ideas as I find them.
