Going Green: Reusable Grocery Shopping Bags

We recently purchased some great green grocery bags at our local Hannaford store. They are the best design I’ve ever seen for this type of bag.

What I like about the design of these bags is that they fold down into a very compact size and have handles that are conducive to caribiner clipping along the back seat hand strap of our vehicle. The colors are bold and fun, and the material is lightweight yet heavy duty. We have two of them.

For us, it’s not realistic to do our major grocery shopping with these as we live remotely and buy in major bulk, often needing boxes to carry things home in. However, for those times when we hit the closest smaller grocery store for a few items, these will come in handy since they can be conveniently stored in the vehicle. Since that is where we usually are when we decide to make a quick jaunt to the store, this system should work for us. If you shop in a more European style and get things every few days or once a week, or live close to a store enabling you to stop by more often and spend less money at a time, you may be able to use this type of grocery bag more extensively than we will.

Again, the point is to do what fits in with your lifestyle and honors who you are and how you live. If you try to implement a green strategy that doesn’t flow with the rhythm of your home, chances are you will have little success. Do what works for you so you can enjoy the process and feel good about it.
