Recipes: Cranberry Apple Crisp

I believe when I found this recipe years ago it was on a product label for the oats. A bit of a twist on the traditional apple crisp without the added cost of fresh cranberries.
One small can of whole berry cranberry sauce, 2 tbsp corn starch, and 5 cups of peeled and sliced apples. This is your filling. For the rest you’ll need: 1 1/2 cups oats, 1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar, 1/3 cup all purpose flour, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1/3 cup butter flavored shortening or margarine (melted), 1 tbsp water.
Heat oven to 375 degrees. For the topping, combine oats, brown sugar, flour and cinnamon. Then stir in melted margarine and water, mixing until crumbly. For the filling, combine cranberry sauce and corn starch in a sauce pan, mixing well over medium-high heat until sauce bubbles. Add apple pieces and toss to coat. Spread the filling into an 8 inch square baking pan that’s been greased. Crumble the topping over the fruit mixture and bake 25-35 minutes or until apples are tender. Serve hot.
